PhD opportunities

I am actively seeking domestic and international students interested in pursuing doctoral studies. I am specifically looking for students who possess the following qualities:

• A strong academic track record
• Interest in conducting research on topics related to those described on this site
• Proficiency in programming
• Passion for Mathematics and Physics
• A curious mind
• Love for knowledge and learning
• Self-motivation
• Proficiency in written and spoken English (for non-native English speakers, proficiency can be demonstrated by an IELTS score of at least 6.5, with a minimum of 6.0 in each section; or a TOEFL score of at least 90, with a minimum of 20 in writing)

• Your Bachelor’s and Master’s academic transcripts, named transcript_bachelors.pdf and transcript_masters.pdf respectively
• Any English journal and conference papers you have authored, including those currently under review, named paper_1.pdf, paper_2.pdf, …
• Your Master’s thesis, if you have written one, named thesis.pdf
• A brief statement of your guiding philosophy, reasons for pursuing a doctoral degree, prior research experience, and career goals, named personal_statement.pdf
• A document containing the names, affiliations, email addresses, and phone numbers of two references who can speak to your potential as a researcher, named references.pdf
• Your IELTS or TOEFL scorecard if you are a non-native English speaker, named english_proficiency.pdf

There are a number of scholarship opportunities available to cover your tuition and living expenses for the duration of your study. You are strongly encouraged to investigate the scholarships you are eligible to apply for from among the following:

• University of Canterbury scholarships, particularly the UC Doctoral scholarship
• University of Canterbury College of Engineering scholarships
• Universities New Zealand scholarships
• NZIDRS (New Zealand International Doctoral Research Scholarships)
• MFAT (Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade) scholarships
• Fulbright scholarships
